GEORGE A ROMERO’S SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD (Canada 2009) ***

Just when you think ideas have run out in the zombie genre, zombie director Master Romero takes his zombie tale one step further.  He resets the action on an island (called Plum Island) where two feuding families cannot resolve agreeably the zombie problem. 

NANNY MCPHEE RETURNS (UK 2010 ) ***
Directed by Susanna White

For a TV director and Thompson’s writing effort, the second installment of Nanny McPhee is standard family fare, but one cannot help but adore this will intentioned effort.

LEBANON (Israel/Germany 2009) ***
Directed by Samuel Maoz

Writer/director Samuel Maoz based LEBANON on his true adventures of his days during the Lebanon war.  The film follows four soldiers during the 1st day of the war.  They are soldiers in the tank division. 

THE INFIDEL (UK 2010) ***
Directed by Josh Appignanesi

Touted as a well meaning comedy which brings together different races, religions or cultures, THE INFIDEL undertakes quite the task.  The term infidel is an old word used as an insult for someone who has a different religious belief.

SOUL KITCHEN (Germany 2009) ***
Directed by Fatih Akin

Turk director Fatih Akin’s latest film shows him in a more hilarious vein than his previous dramas like THE EDGE OF HEAVEN and HEAD ON.  Again, his protagonist is a somewhat loser, who by chance, have things somehow go right for him.  Just as in his other films.  It is just as the verse in the Bible goes:  All things work well for those who love the Lord!
