Night Watch
NIGHT WATCH, (Nochnoy dozor) which broke all domestic box-office records when it opened in Russia in the July of 2004, is the much anticipated first of a trilogy of horror/sci-fi/action films based on the best selling novels of Sergei Lukyanenko. The second, DAY WATCH is already a hit this year and the third, DUSK WATCH will be made in English by Fox Searchlight and Russia’s Channel One.

When a Stranger Calls
This remake of the unremarkable 1979 Carol Kane babysitter horror flick of the same name is remarkable for all the wrong reasons. But to film buffs, this might be – only might be - worth a visit to the local theatre. That is, if you have nothing else better to do and have lost your job.

Youkai Daisenso (The Big Spook War)
Plot: A young boy with a troubled home life becomes “chosen one” to fight against the evil to save the earth. Through his journey, he comes face to face with groups of Youkai and they become his companion to the Big Spook War.
Review: A cult fave director Miike, who is famous for his lovely sense on gore and sex, made a family film. That’s right. He made a big budgeted B-family film. And the result is simply nothing but fun all the way. The film is a remake of a Kuroda film of the same title came out in 1968. And this is a film that celebrates 60th anniversary of Kadokawa Pictures.

Director Jonathan Demme’s NEIL YOUNG: HEART OF GOLD begins like a regular documentary with the cameras capturing the comments of legendary singer/songwriter Neil Young and those around him. But the audience soon realizes that some of the comments do not make sense. It seems so cool that Demme has not edited these lines of illogical musings as it would otherwise destroy the authenticity of the world around Neil Young.

Spymate
Directed by Robert Vince, famous for chimp child flicks like MVP (Most Valuable Primate) and Air Bud, Spymate, made in 2003 and finally released in 2006 says it pretty much for its delayed release. A pretty tame movie, even for the kids, who have the more attractive Star Wars and Spy Kids Hollywood blockbusters to content with. Spymate is still pretty watchable, for all its silliness and simplicity.
