Baghead (2008)

Director: Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass Cast: Ross Partridge, Steve Zassis Country: USA Year: 2008 Score: *** MPAA Rating: |
Known for their last low budget feature THE PUFFY CHAIR, the Duplass Brothers, returns with another such feature, this time combining cheap horror thrills with a romantic twist involving two couples shacked up in a cabin.
Matt (Ross Partridge) and Chad (Steve Zassis) are with Michelle (Greta Gerwig) with Catherine (Elise Muller). Or is it the other way around? The flirtations begin with the four struggling actors amidst terrorizing by a BAGHEAD, a guy or girl with a paper bag over the head that could spell a horrific death. The actors intend to write a script for a cheap flick in which they all can star in.
As far as the movie goes, BAGHEAD shares the plusses of the Duplass Brothers’ PUFFY CHAIR. The Brothers deal with the romantic confrontations of the couples well. Both films contain a good twist in the plot – though not entire unpredictable. Though one can complain that the Duplasses are at times too smug about their moviemaking, the cheesy story does keep one engrossed from start to finish. The film is at its best when it makes fun of guerilla filmmaking, as at the start of the film.
