HENRY POOLE IS HERE is a feel-good romantic quirky comedy that follows one down in the dumps Henry Poole (Luke Wilson). Poole is diagnosed with a terminal ailment. He sets out to live his remaining days in solitude. Through a series of incidents, most of which are quite hilarious involving faith and a painting, he finds true love in the form of Dawn (Radha Mitchell).
Pellington’s (THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES) take on life is far too predictable and contrived for it to work. Pity as Wilson and particularly Adriana Barrazza (BABEL) as the nosy loud-mouthed neighbour deliver fine performances with Richard Benjamin offering a nice cameo as Dr. Fancher. But this film is at least one step up from the similar but absurd premised LARS AND THE REAL GIRL. Forget everything else and enjoy the laughs is the best medicine for this movie.
