Academy Award winning director Steven Soderbergh makes enough cash from his Hollywood forays like TRAFFIC and the OCEAN 11’s to indulge in his low budget experiments like BUBBLE, SOLARIS and now THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE.

This film follows a real life adult film star Sasha Grey playing a very high class Manhattan escort by the name of Chelsea.  Set during the weeks leading up to the 2008 presidential election, her life as shown in 5 days is as difficult to follow as it is for her to remember all her clients’ names.

For whatever the reason, Soderbergh’s film jumps all over the place, time-wise.  His film takes a while to follow and engage.  As a result, no one really cares what happens to Chelsea whether she wins an argument with her boyfriend, Chris (Chris Santos) or whether she takes on disgusting new clients.

Sasha Grey is pretty and classy enough on screen but she is no actress.  She stumbles her few lines and when posed with a difficult question, she remains silent.  With a running length of only 78 minutes, it is clear that this uninteresting film experiment has run out of steam.
