FINN ON THE FLY (Canada 2007) *1/2
Directed by Mark Jean
A Telefilm Canadian family film, FINN ON THE FLY is the story of a dog, FINN who teaches his master, 13-year old schoolboy Ben a few values in life like friendship, instincts, loyalty and doggy values.
But not before transforming into a human being after accidentally slurping up a transformation serum on the floor of neighbour Dr. Madeline Madsen’s laboratory. Director Jean’s most famous work is the 1996 Anne Bancroft film HOMECOMING besides a slew of TV films. FINN ON THE FLY is a low budget production and sitting through it feels like watching a family TV show.
FINN ON THE FLY is not very inventive or funny though director Jean and the actors especially Ana Gasteyer as Dr. Madsen and Bradon Fira as Bob, her assistant try extremely hard. Also full marks for FINN the dog (not the actor Ryan Bellville playing his human form) for all the wonderful tricks.
