Plot: The morning after Tum unfortunately loses her job she finds a box of money that contains $25,000 outside the door of her apartment. When thugs come to collect it, she fights them off and accidentally kills them. Now Tum finds herself tangled in a web of twisted coincidences from which she can’t get free.
Review: This film sure has a wicked and odd sense of humor. Director Pen-Ek Ratanarvang (THE LAST LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE) walks on thin line between comedy and crime caper. The film switches tone from serious bang bang to very odd humor but these two different styles mesh nicely all the way. The gangster elements are there, the comedy elements are there but neither overshadows the other whatsoever. Ratanaruang pulls it off with such a playful coincidence, it seems effortless from the start.
Lalita Panyopas plays Tum who is quietly shy, as if she is the victim in the whole situation and not responsible for her actions at all. Her performance is mostly straight faced, but somehow conveys believable emotion in this unbelievable situation.
The film ends up being fun pulp, delivering both shocks and laughs for a purely entertaining feature that seems to live in the same universe as PULP FICTION or LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS.
DVD:
Video: presented in anamorphic widescreen 1.85:1. The transfer is nice but some scenes seems like the transfer was made from other prints. Odd grainness was visible. Overall for the film like this, decent work has been done.
Audio: Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Thai language with optional English subtitles. For a film like this, it is nice mix with clear dialogue. Nothing to be impressed about.

Palm Pictures previews: Spring in a Small Town and Last Life in the Universe
The lack of extras is a disappointment knowing that Palm Pictures has released incredible DVDs such as DEMONLOVER. Still, the sound and image are pretty good. The film itself is worth a watch for anyone who enjoys an odd crime caper.
