Space Chimps (2008)

The chimp movies in the old days were difficult to make with real animals being trained to perform tricks and act out parts. SPACE CHIMPS cheats with animation though the primates look quite real with an uncanny coincidental resemblance to the apes in PLANET OF THE APES.
The story concerns the chimps saving the U.S. space program. Like this chimp movie, the film’s theme is a bit dated. Ham III (Andy Sanberg) has to do his grand-chimpfather proud by leaving his circus act to join astronaut chimps Luna (Cheryl Hines and Titan (Patrick Warburton) save a space shuttle that entered a worm hole. Of course, this leads to plenty of adventures with new friends and monsters within a weird environment.
SPACE CHIMPS caters towards younger children. The humour is mostly harmless with a few toilet jokes thrown in (like how Kilowatt escapes from the cave monster), the theme family oriented and the romance G-rated. All this will definitely lead to adults squirming in their seats, but to be fair to be filmmakers, this is no too bad a kiddie flick. SPACE CHIMPS is colourful, cheery, has an ok adventure and story and the children in the audience were pleased despite the ok animation.
