STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH is the best of the prequel trilogy, if not the best of all STAR WARS films. The film contains everything that was brilliant about THE PHANTOM MENACE and ATTACK OF THE CLONES and none of the things that didn’t work about those films. Needless to say, all the action sequences (from the stunning opening space battle with its sweeping one-shot to all the saber battles: Obi vs. Grievous, Yoda vs. Sidious, Mace vs. Palpatine and Obi vs. Anakin) are expectedly brilliant. They are amazingly crafted with excitement and beauty. They are spectacular. The special effects are excellent. Nothing really calls attention to itself as special effects. It is very seamless and SITH never feels like an animation or video game like some sequences did in TPM and AOTC.

Once again George proves that he knows exactly what to do to make things intense and exciting through editing. The pace of the film is very smooth throughout building to a brilliant climax. He beautifully intercuts the battle between Anakin vs. Obi with the fight between Yoda vs. Sidious as well as Vader’s first reborn breath with Padme’s last breath.

Now what make SITH great are all the scenes that don’t involve any kind of action. Everyone’s performance is great especially Ian McDiarmid. Everything he does in the film is impressive. Hayden Christiansen does such good work here that its almost makes one believe his plastic performance in AOTC was done on purpose. And the heart of the prequel trilogy Ewan McGregor shows more emotion that he didn in the last two. A scene between Padme and Obi and Anakin before they go at each other is just stunning.

There are some elements that are disappointing about the film. One is the way Anakin becomes Sidious’ apprentice. One minute he is preaching the Jedi code to Mace and next he is on his knee becoming a Dark Lord. That went too fast for anyone to buy it but the story must move on. The Wookie section of the film is also disappointing. The time spent on Kashyyyk is way too short which makes it feel like it was in the film just to give Chewbacca the chance to make an appearance.

Overall, SITH is the great film that STAR WARS fans have long been waiting for. The film isn’t perfect (none of the STAR WARS films are) but it is packed with excitement and many brilliant moments. This is a true fan pleaser. George has ended the saga with a bang.

  1. Chad Mendoza Says:

The movie started off dark. It had an aura of mystery, entrigue, prophecy, and again, a darkness. Episode One, you might recall was a light movie, and Attack of the Clones which followed grew darker ((( even in picture))). Now the Revegne of the Sith? By far the darkest of all. I saw the 12:00 am showing with my son...whom I named Anakin, after my all time favorite character.

The film started off almost comedic. R2 provided what little and sparse comedy you would find in the film. That is if you think him setting fire to two Super Battle Droids is funny. Which I of course did along with the rest of the viewing audiences, who were all up past their bed time. After that things started to get dark.

One of my complaints is that some of the movie seemed very rushed. I would not have minded a good three and a half hour film. I believe thats the time frame this one should have fallen under. It would have taken off some pressure to squeeze things in, that ultimately just seemed rushed.

Don’t get me wrong though, I loved the film. It fit like a puzzle piece. Hayden and Ewan both did beautiful performances. By the end I was heavy hearted, and went home sad, dwelling on certain scenes.

Over all the film was herartbreaking to watch, but beautiful in the same sense. You have to be a real fan to feel such, so those of you who breath it will feel what I am saying.

viewing it in a digital theater brought the film to the next level. looked absolutely beautiful. it was better for the second viewing. picked up a few things that didn’t catch for the first viewing.

  3. MV from Brazil Says:

It is extremely sad the way Anakin becomes Darth Vader...His master’s suffering when Anakin is down, and the greatness of the two parallel combats, everything wuz perfect… by the way, the music...that wuz THE musing when they were fighting!!!! The best one of all movies this is, Yoda said.

  4. shogo Says:

cant wait to see dvd version with 5-6 additional scenes in it.

  5. Lord Vader Says:

This was THE greatest movie in the Galaxy! I loved the scene Anakin was down on mustafar with no legs, whitout one arm, and the way he set on fire! In the last part, just before the droids put his mask on, his face was super-cool!!! And when he cut off Dooku’s hands and his head, boy!!!

  6. Darth Malik Says:

It was aight. Kind of rushed though. Loved the CGI. i do have to say that lucas did capture the true esscence of the story. I’m coming out with an animated version of episode III. I’ll be submitting it to http://www.newgrounds.com

What a beautiful movie to watch.  If you put on some earplugs, then the movie would have been amazing.

The scenery is awesome.  The backgrounds, settings and computer imagery is gorgeous.

But sadly, the acting was pathetic.  I mean, poor Anakin.  After three years, you would figure that the actor who played him would have improved his acting skills.  Maybe go to a couple of acting camps and get better.  But no.  He was just the same, a luke warm actor with barely passable acting skills.

And the slapstick.  Give me a break.  The droids were like the three stooges, acting ridiculously funny and not like warrior droids.  In the future, you figure that poor General Griveous would have gotten a lung transplant for crying out loud, or at least re-generated ones.

And in a world were robots deliver babies… “she lost the will to live”.  Common… Don’t they have like Galactic Therapy?  Or at least some good ole Galactic Happy Drugs.  And poor Anakin ***censored*** Darth Vader, in such pain getting those new legs.  Don’t they have Space Morphine?

Lame lame lame.  And Georgie had to stick it poor Chewbaka (or however you spell it).  From great warrior, to comedy relief at the side of Han Solo.  What a demotion that was.

Lucas said it would be a tear jerker.  If he meant tears of laughter, the he was correct.  If he meant tears as I saw another 10 bucks down the toilet, then he is right.

But if he means tears of sadness, then I guess it will only apply to the hardcore fan set, because regular people like me could not fail to see the pathetic attempt at making a great movie.

I am glad he will not take another 30 dollars out of me by not making the other three movies he promised at the beginning.

    Sorry,

    Killslowly.

P.S.: how do you make a stealth entry with a lizard/bird that keeps making all that raquet?

  8. Brian Says:

I never bothered with CLONES so even though I’ve heard that this thing is an improvement, I don’t think I’ll be seeing it. Especially after hearing that they inserted a Tarzan yell into a Wookie swinging shot. Jesus. That’s like having them all dance to “Hey Ya” at the big celebration.

  9. Kirsten Says:

This is the best STAR WARS movie EVER!!! I loved it! If you haven’t seen it yet, see it. You won’t regret it. It is definately deeper and more darker than the others.

  10. Katrina Says:

I’ve seen this movie twice and will probably see it at least once more before it is taken out of theaters. I’ve read all the books before seeing episodes I, II, and III. The books are much more detailed but in my opinion the movies still outdo them by far. I would like to see some more of the things from the books in the movies, but you can’t have it all. The third movie has been the best out of the six in my opinion. Though things were a bit rushed, it was still an amazing movie. I love the backround movie that is almost always playing. It is real music and not cg. The special effects and the acting was excellant, though there were some parts that could have been better in the acting department. Some of the battle droid parts where they are supposed to be funny, I found rather stupid. I did enjoy R-2 setting the battle droids on fire. The tarzan yell was cheesy as well as when Anakin as Darth Vadar screams ‘NOOOOO!’ while standing.. There were several points in the movie where I wanted to cry. The first being when Anakin kills the younglings, the second when he chokes Padme, the third when Obi-Wan yells “You were my brother Anakin! I loved you!”, the fourth when Padme dies, and lastly the funeral procession for Padme. Her procession was beautiful, and very touching. It ties everything in all of the movies together. Overall I believe the movie was excellant and I can’t wait for it to be released on DVD.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE I SAW IT FOR THE 6TH TIME YESTERDAY ON IMAX. AND IT WAS THE ***censored***. ANAKIN OMG I LOVE HIM BUT BESIDES THAT… IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD.!!!

  12. R.M. Skywalker Says:

Being a deep and very much dedicated Star Wars fan all my life, I have to say that this film was by far the best of all three...I love every minute of it and I was extremely sad when it ended. I was ready to watch it again...and so I did- after seeing the midnight showing, I went the next day at the 3pm showing....and then again at the 11pm showing....I have now seen this movie a total of 10 times...and I have never had to pay for one ticket...you see I work at the movie theatre!  I was kind of sad that it went so fast- I was hoping for at least 3 and 1/2 hours, or longer (just like lord of the rings)...but alas, it could not be so.  So- in closing, I would like to say that if you have not seen this film already- that you should go and see it as soon as possible, because you will DEFINITLY not be disappointed!!!!

Both Gilbert and Rod have also posted reviews that are a little less favorable. Check them out if you’re interested in a slightly different take on the film.
